2016 Ford Mustang Cobra, The details are still sketchy and there are some wild rumors running around. For starters, we don’t know which Mustang will serve as a base SVT will modify. Options are Mustang 2014 GT 500 or 215 GT 350. Gt 350 is newer model, so it makes sense that it will serve as a starting point. The most intriguing part is the engine that will power the new Cobra. Ford uses three engines in the latest Mustang, but only two could be even considered for Cobra. Those are 3.7 liter Cyclone V6 with 310 horse powers and 320 pound feet of torque and 5.0 liter Coyote V8 with 324 horse powers and 400 pound feet of torque. These engines are used in various ford models but it is quite possible for SVT to use something else. One of the more obvious choices would be new 5.0 liter EcoBoost V8 with 365 horse powers and 400 pound feet of torque used in F150. Now, EcoBoost in Cobra sounds a bit unnatural (some would say sacrilegious) but one must roll with the times. Besides, it would nice if 2016 Ford Mustang Cobra would do its part in saving the planet. As per tradition, any engine would be heavily modified by SVT before being put under the hood. In the past, such modification included various changes, from simple tweaks to replacing the standard aluminum engine block with cast iron one in 2003 model. We suspect that once SVT get their hands on it, not much of eco would remain in EcoBoost. 2016 Ford Mustang Cobra backFord’s recent experiments with aluminum chassis could mean that this technology could be used in 2016 Ford Mustang Cobra, in order to save weight. If all goes well, we should expect a third generation of Cobra R to be developed as well. The last version, built in 2000, had a 5.4 liter DOHC V8, with 385 horse powers and only 300 of those were made. It would be interesting to see what SVT would choose for powering R variant of 2016 Ford Mustang Cobra.
