2016 BMW X5 Release, Changes, In terms of design platform – 2016 BMW X5 – characterizes as a SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle) rather than a SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle). First generation BMW X5 had a trademark “xDrive platform” which is characterized by a truck based uni-body chassis, relatively lighter platform and excellent on road ability. It should be note that the model shares its development platform with that of the luxury sedan model line-up – BMW 5 Series. Like other BMW model series, 2016 BMW X5 also has its own dedicated line-up of plug in hybrid electric vehicles which include – BMW X5 xDrive40e – in addition to the hybrid series continuing from 2013 – xDrive50i, xDrive30d, xDrive40d, xDrvie35i, sDrvie25d and xDrive25d. The new hybrid model is speculated to be fitted with a 241 HP 2.0L inline 4 cylinder engine which works in combination with an 82 kW electric motor. The hybrid powertrain offers a collective power output of about 309 HP and a torque output of 184lbft. Major advantages of BMW X5 hybrid includes that it can travel up to 19miles on a single electric charge while having a top speed of 75mph. Furthermore, it can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 6.8 seconds.
