2015 Audi S3 Review , The next-generation Audi A3 destined for American shores won’t be the four-door hatchback that we’ve come to know, but a small sedan instead. It’s an unconventional move from Audi, yet the automaker clearly hopes to win hearts, minds and dollars by positioning the Audi A3 as a premium compact four-door. The 2015 Audi S3 is a step above the A3 in terms of performance and features. The S3 will be based on a new lightweight platform designed for front- and all-wheel-drive applications. This same platform will also underpin the next Golf and several future VW products. Compared to the current A3, the new S3 is slightly longer for improved proportions and interior space. So here’s a question for Audi’s marketing department: Why should anybody buy an S4 sedan? The new S3 is cheaper, quicker (4.4 seconds to 60!), and, although this won’t trigger a buying impulse in everybody, considerably cuter. Sure, it’s down a couple of cylinders compared with its bigger brother, and it has to make do with a less sophisticated four-wheel-drive system. But this is 2014 and the world is downsizing; even the BMW M3 has given up two pots. With the 2015 Audi S3, “sport sedan” is a merit badge. The S3 strains with turbocharged acceleration at its four-wheeled leash, and zip-ties itself to the road with elated, elevated road manners. It pulls all the right levers except one and that oversight has a readily available fix.The S3 starts swinging for the sub-$40,000 lights this summer, seeking out first-time sport-sedan shoppers generally and specifically, aiming itself right at Motor Authority’s Best Car To Buy 2014, the Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG.
